Basketball is a high-intensity sport in which physical fitness, technical proficiency, cognitive abilities, and psychological characteristics interact to influence athletic performance. The psychological demands of the game may vary considerably according to the specific responsibilities associated with different playing positions. Point guards are required to demonstrate decision-making, confidence, and composure, whereas shooting guards may require motivation, aggression, and the ability to recover quickly from performance errors. Small forwards must exhibit adaptability and mental toughness, while power forwards and centers require resilience, concentration, emotional control, and composure under physical and competitive pressure. The present study focuses on the comparative psychological profiles of basketball players across the five conventional playing positions: point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward, and center. The study examines psychological characteristics including concentration, mental toughness, aggression, stress tolerance, and broader personality attributes. A comparative approach is proposed to identify positional variations in psychological characteristics and to examine the extent to which role-specific demands are reflected in players' psychological profiles. The study is significant for coaches, sports psychologists, talent-identification professionals, and athletes because it may contribute to position-specific psychological training, player development, and performance enhancement. The investigation also addresses a research gap arising from the relatively limited and inconsistent evidence concerning psychological differences among basketball players across specific playing positions.
