The constitutional democracy in India is a complex interplay of historical developments, cultural nuances and socio-political dynamics. This article traces the development of constitutional democracy in India from its colonial beginnings to its present-day tribulations and prospects. It discusses the basic concepts on which the Constitution is based, the roles played by the various institutions, and the ongoing debates on democratic values in the context of globalisation and technological advancement.
