Abstract:
Since coming to power in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has redefined India's foreign policy by embedding a strong normative vision into its global engagements. Departing from a strictly pragmatic or non-aligned approach, Modi’s foreign policy incorporates civilizational identity, strategic autonomy, democratic values, and South-South solidarity as core principles. This paper analyzes the normative elements of India's foreign policy under Modi, assessing how values, ideologies, and cultural narratives are used to shape international behavior, project soft power, and pursue global influence. It also examines tensions between these normative goals and India's strategic or economic interests.
